Our Introduction to Lace Knitting workshops were very popular so we thought we should offer you the opportunity to take your skills to the next stage.

Our Second Step Lace Knitting workshop will be held on Saturday 14th February.

A Second Introduction to Lace Knitting (6 hours)

This workshop is now booked out.

 Learn the basics of knitting lace, including reading a chart, provisional cast on, yarn over, different methods of decreasing, knitting on a border and blocking to bring out the best in your lace knitting. Participants should have ample time to complete the class sampler during this workshop

Revive Vintage Knits: WS3

Explore patterns, fashion, design and colour.

Understand old pattern terminology. Convert written patterns into charts. Analyse vintage yarn. View a vast range of vintage patterns and explore options for making them fit today's figure and fashion.

Tutor: Barbara has a dressmaking and teaching background plus a vast collection of pattern books.

Design a Shadow Knit: WS5

This workshop is for knitters who know how to knit shadow weave patterns and who want to move onto designing their own. We will chart shadow knitting patterns using graph paper. This will be either converting a knitting or cross stitch chart for shadow knitting or charting a pattern from a simple picture, or something like a leaf.

Tutor: Iris Horoch who is fascinated by shadow weave. She is an enthusiastic, skilled teacher.

When: Sunday, July 27

Materials fee: $5

Skill level: Must know how to shadow knit

An Introduction to Lace Knitting (6 hours)

We have now closed registrations for this workshop as we have received bookings for the maximum number of places available - 20.  

The workshop was first promoted to members in the October Convenors' letter, issued to all Group and Sub-Committee Convenors, on 2nd October.  Registrations opened online on 5th October and within 48 hours bookings for more than half of the available places had been received.  We have had unprecedented interest in this workshop and are thrilled that it has proved so popular with the members. We therefore intend to hold another one as soon as possible.

 The big favourite at the Easter Show stand was the bag made from Plarn or plastic yarn recycled from shopping bags. Workshop Coordinator, Helen, shows off the before and after components of her Plarn bag.
